Refrigeration and Cooling

The decreasing of the temperature of a given apparatus to extract heat energy from a material or product.

Vacuum refrigeration and vacuum cooling offer innovative solutions for cooling applications, particularly in the preservation and storage of perishable or sensitive products. Employing vacuum in the cooling process boosts efficiency, minimizes energy consumption, and lessens environmental impact.

Vacuum refrigeration operates on the principle of lowering the boiling point of a refrigerant by reducing the pressure in the system. The refrigerant cycle involves compressing the refrigerant, condensing it into a liquid, evaporating it in a vacuum chamber, and then re-condensing after it absorbs heat from the surrounding environment. The refrigerant evaporates at lower temperatures, absorbing the heat around it and having a cooling effect on the product.

Vacuum cooling uses the same principles to cool a product as opposed to the intended purpose of vacuum refrigeration, which is to maintain a steady temperature within the refrigeration chamber. Moisture in the product also evaporates, absorbing the heat of the product. The vacuum level and operating conditions of the refrigeration process dictate the controlled temperature decrease without removing all of the moisture in the product.

Vacuum cooling is extremely useful in MRI cooling. The refrigerant is typically far below 0℃.

The dry screw vacuum pump is often used for vacuum refrigeration applications in many industries. Reaching the approximate 2 Torr for more extreme cooling applications is quite easy, meaning that the dry screw vacuum pump does not need to operate at its maximum RPM. In comparison to other vacuum pumps which need the same maximum RPM to generate sufficient levels of vacuum for vacuum refrigeration, the dry screw vacuum pump wears down at a reduced rate and cuts back on energy costs from operation. The dry screw vacuum pump provides for easy gas purging and easy access to the pump chamber for cleaning and maintenance.
