Cutting and Perforation
The incision of material in a controlled manner or pattern according to the intended design of the end product.
If paper needs to be cut to a certain size or shape before printing, it is run through a paper cutting machine equipped with cutters of varied construction to make V-cuts, rounded cuts, and the like to create the desired end result. The plate that lays under the paper is perforated, and vacuum is pulled underneath to hold the paper in place as it is being cut. This vacuum plate is common in screen printing as well.
Before printing, perforation is done if required. Perforating paper has many uses, such as for invoices, raffle tickets, direct mail, or anything else that someone may want to fold and tear, as perforating makes that process incredibly easy. One method of perforation is vacuum perforation, where paper is heated and run through a perforated cylinder that has strong vacuum pulled at its center. As it rotates, the paper passes over it and the vacuum tears the sections of paper that are covering its perforations.

NRV Series
Rotary vane units are of the less expensive vacuum units in the modern market, with the capability to reach deeper vacuum than liquid ring at the expense of continuous maintenance and less capacity. The NRV Series single stage oil-circulated rotary vane vacuum pumps provide deeper vacuum for perforating or secure holding in a paper cutting machine.
NC Series
A liquid ring vacuum pump spins, emptying one bucket while intaking in another simultaneously as opposed to non-continuous vacuum pumps such as piston pumps. This continuous action is useful for holding paper in place as it is being cut, as well as for attaining a firm grip on paper as it is being perforated. The liquid ring vacuum pump can be quite strong, so it will be able to power the suction of multiple paper cutting machines simultaneously, a consideration that is advantageous depending on the scale of the operation. A stronger vacuum is needed for perforation, so one vacuum pump is connected to one perforation machine. The NC Series single stage conical lobe liquid ring vacuum pumps are capable of up to 26” HgV, providing sufficient vacuum at sufficient rates for paper cutting and perforation applications.
